Congress 2020 in Vienna

Dear EATLP (associate) member,

The current situation forced us to cancel the Vienna congress which was scheduled to take place in June 18-20. However, our Articles of Association require us to hold a General Assembly at least once a year. For reasons of force majeure a physical meeting is not possible, and therefore, it will be held online on the same date and time initially scheduled, June 18, between 4-5 pm. The specific online platform to be used will be communicated to you in the next weeks and all the relevant information and documents will be available on our new website, at least two weeks before the GA. This will allow you to raise all relevant questions and comments a week before the GA and for us to take them into account. Of course, you will also be allowed to make your additional comments and express your views during the GA.

Although our annual congress this year has been called off, the works on the congress book will continue as planned. Therefore, you will receive the book on value creation with the general, topical and national reports next year, ideally before our congress in Antwerp, where it will be briefly presented on Thursday afternoon.

I also take this opportunity to remind you that the Academic Committee will meet online on the same day, right before the General Assembly, and will discuss topics for future congresses, in particular, Vienna 2022 and Luxembourg 2023. Therefore, as the Chairman of the Academic Committee did before, I reiterate our invitation to submit proposals if you think a particular topic is worth being dealt with in one of our Congresses. We already have some very interesting ones, but it is our policy to have open calls so that all members feel they can actively participate in the life of EATLP.

In this way, despite the unexpected circumstances, the life of our association will continue this year as normal as possible.

Let me also take this opportunity to wish you, your families and colleagues all the best in these turbulent times we are living.

Kind regards,

Adolfo Martín Jiménez
Chairman of the European Association of Tax Law Professors
